Cotone satinato e cotone normale cosa cambia? - Divise & Divise

What's the difference between satin cotton and regular cotton?

The main difference between cotton satin (or cotton satin) and regular cotton (often made with a plain weave) lies in the weave used. Both are made from the same fiber (cotton), but the manufacturing process significantly changes their appearance, feel, and some properties.

1. The Weaving

  • Plain Weave Cotton: This is the simplest weave, where the warp and weft threads are interwoven regularly, one above and one below, with the maximum number of binding stitches. This makes the fabric compact, durable , and uniform on both sides.

  • Satin Weave (Satin Cotton): The threads are woven more loosely, with a minimum of three threads passing over or under each other before re-weaving (for example, three over and one under). This leaves long stretches of thread on the surface (called strands), which reflect light, giving the fabric its characteristic sheen and silky softness .

2. Look and Feel

Satin cotton is chosen for its luxurious look and unparalleled softness , making it ideal for high-quality bedding. Regular cotton is prized for its durability , more natural look , and great breathability , making it excellent for everyday use and warm climates.

In short, the difference lies in how the cotton fiber is processed: regular cotton uses a simple, sturdy weave, while satin cotton uses a complex weave that maximizes luster and softness.
